As I set my first Iowa Blue hatch of 2014, I felt the excitement building at the potential these little gems hold. These eggs are the result of only 3 years of intensive breeding, but I am amazed at how much has happened in that short time. The incredible hard working individuals that stepped up to accept the challenge of this breed in 2013 truly inspire me. I am honored to serve as Vice President of the Iowa Blue Chicken Club, and will focus on three main goals this year.

1. Personally, I will select my breeding flock for big healthy birds that personify the vivacious character of the Iowa Blue, strengthening their position as the dual-purpose homestead breed they were known to be.

2. I will support the Club’s efforts to develop a Standard of Perfection that provides a functional and beautiful template, consistent with the original type created by the early breeders.

3. I will promote the breed to the public and the American Poultry Association by showing, educating, and offering birds to other dedicated supporters of the breed.

Congratulations to all those who have a promising flock for the upcoming hatching season. I believe this will be a great year for Iowa Blues and the Club, and I look forward to seeing what we can accomplish!
