That important time is upon us now. We are calling for the membership to vote on the Iowa Blue Standard for approval as the official standard for our breed. This is a very important step towards petitioning to get out breed approved by the APA for the Standards of Perfection.
The Iowa Blue Standard is posted as finalized by the Iowa Blue Standards Committee here: Iowa Blue Standard
The Historical Archive section contains a wealth of information about the original appearance and history of the Iowa Blue and was utilized to create a standard true to the origins of the breed for the Silver Penciled variety. Included in the proposed standard is an outline for the Birchen variety, which is a type seen with frequency sold as Iowa Blues. This variety's standard has been formed in the anticipation that the color may be petitioned in the future. Read through the archives for wonderful information including interviews with people involved with the original birds, recollections on the original founder and hatchery supplying the birds, photos, and accounts of the Iowa Blue's history to present. The archive can be found here: Iowa Blue Historical Archive
