in conjunction with the NIPA Show in Mason City, IA (information below) Main Discussion Items: A special thank you to the standards committee on their hard work in compiling, reasearching, and completing the official Iowa Blue Standard. The standard currently lists two colorations of Iowa Blue, the original Silver Penciled variety, and the more recent Birchen. The Iowa Blue Chicken Club at this time is working towards petitioning the APA for approval of the Iowa Blue breed in the original Silver Penciled variety. The Birchen coloration standard was completed in preparation for that variety to be petitioned in the future.
That important time is upon us now. We are calling for the membership to vote on the Iowa Blue Standard for approval as the official standard for our breed. This is a very important step towards petitioning to get out breed approved by the APA for the Standards of Perfection. Exciting news for the membership! The Iowa Blue Standards Committee is in final revisions for our official standard. The committee has just finished compiling the Birchen Standard and will soon be ready to bring the standard to the membership for a vote.
The current version of the standard has been posted on the Standard Tab. The complete standard is now listed in its revised format. The Iowa Blue Standards Committee is making nice strides towards completing the standard revisions. The most recent revisions are now posted under the "Standard" tab, with the History, Economic Qualities, Standard Weights, Disqualifications, Shape (male and female) and Silver Penciled coloration (male and female) revised. The Birchen coloration section remains to be revised at this time. Feel free to read through the revisions!

The standards committee has been hard at work this winter digging up information on the origins of the Iowa Blue breed to fully understand and visualize the breed in its original form. This information is being utilized to develop a clear picture for the standard of what we will be working towards as we work to resurrect this near extinct breed. Above is an image from an account recalling "Herman" and a group of ladies descended from John Logston's flock. John Logston is recognized as the originator of the breed. Below is also an article from 1955 showcasing the introduction of the Iowa Blue by W.C. Fenton, generally credited with the naming of the breed. An Archives section is coming soon with these historical documents, photos, and interviews with key persons with historical knowledge of the Iowa Blue. The IBCC Breeder Directory page is now LIVE. Submit your information to joint the list!
